    The Publication Plan

    LUNCHTIME BRIEFING - 8 JULY 2010 - ALDERLEY PARK

    Innovation in Publication Planning

In this session, the presenters, John Gonzalez and Tom Grant of AstraZeneca, described the current climate with regard to Industry sponsored publications, with the requirements of several key stakeholders (eg regulatory authorities, journal editors, etc) placing a significant regulatory burden on the Industry and authors of Industry sponsored publications in particular. The objective of this session was to discuss, within the boundaries of today’s highly regulated environment, opportunities for innovation in scientific publications. Several case studies were presented illustrating that it is indeed possible to be innovative despite the current regulatory climate. Furthermore, one of the case studies presented, the MPIP (Medical Publishing Insights & Practice) initiative has just won the 2010 Communiqué, Trust and Reputation Award. The presenters concluded that it is incumbent on all publications professionals to strive to work creatively towards the delivery of truly compelling, yet scientifically credible, publications whilst doing so in a highly ethical and transparent way. The presentation prompted much discussion in the interactive session that followed.
